I decided to dig into the topic of creating LEGO for cinematics. I'm very impressed by Animal Logic's work on LEGO MOVIE and BATMAN. Firstly I figured out that assets were made in LDD and then were re-topologiesed in Maya. I guess there is a script that works with the data from LDD (ID, position, color ID) and pre-build lego pieces in Maya. Also, found extremely interesting and useful article Lego Batman Fan Film where Simon BAU explains in detail how he made his incredible short fan art movie, please check it out as it is super awesome. So, today I started exploring LDD, data exporting and setting up LEGO shaders in Maya with Redshift. This is what I have so far.
